You only got so many years here in Ames......so why not make the most of them? While other organizations and residences offer leadership oportunities and benefits, nothing compares to the Greek Community at Iowa State. As a member of a respected organization, you will have a chance to build your own character and leadership skills in numerous different ways, along with having the help and guidance of others to help you along the way.Be apart of a tradition over 150 years in the runningOur chapter here at Iowa State has one of the longest running charters of any fraternity around, running for over 92 years and counting, and Sigma Chi Internationally has been around since 1855. A solid foundation of history and tradition allows us to better reflect on the virtues on which this organization was founded, and we use that as a basis for our teachings to help build leaders. Our chapter also follows a 100% no hazing policy. Former hazing traditions throughout the whole greek system were used to teach discipline and respect, and we feel that there other ways to teach this without degrading or humiliating any individual member.Meet new people, have a good timeAs a member of Sigma Chi and the Greek system, you will meet plenty of people in the same position as yourself, and plenty others to help you on your journey here at college. We work with numerous sororities, fraternities, and other organizations in a number of events, including homecoming activities, philanthropic events, socials, parties, and other traditions here at Iowa State. The friendships are enduring and those that you meet will have an impact on your entire life.Stay on course in collegeAcademics should always be the primary focus of each and every college student, and we work to make sure this is the case for all of our members. There are numerous programs put in place to assist us in staying focused on our studies, such as specified study hours, academic speaker presentations, mentor program to have older members tutor those in need, study room that includes books and files to help with specific classes, specified policies during the week to promote academics, among others. While joining a fraternity is a commitment, we work to make sure that we never distract each member from his academic commitments.Be apart of an up and coming chapterOur chapter here at Iowa State is constantly improving and growing bigger and better. We were awarded the most recent Peterson Award, which is the highest honor bestowed upon a chapter of Sigma Chi. Winning this award is not easy and requires numerous aspects of chapter to be exceptional, and less than 10% of Sigma Chi chapters received this distinction. We are continually building off of this success to continually make this place better |
