Sigma Chi at Iowa State University

Why Join Sigma Chi?

Meet new people, have a good time...

As a member of Sigma Chi and the Greek system, you will meet plenty of people in the same position as yourself and plenty others to help you on your journey here at college. We work with numerous sororities, fraternities, and other organizations in a number of events, including Homecoming activities, Greek Week, philanthropic events, socials, parties, and other traditions here at Iowa State.

 Lasting Friendships…

The people you meet in Sigma Chi and through our fraternal activities are friends you will cherish for the rest of your life. It likely won’t happen that way should you remain an Independent.

Different Temperaments, Talents, and Convictions…

Sigma Chi embraced diversity before diversity became popular. We seek to bring together individuals from diverse backgrounds to assist one another in the attainment of high-minded goals—a friendship of a higher order that we call brotherhood. Because of that brotherhood, one gains lifelong friendships and a multitude of opportunities for the future.

A tradition over 150 years in the making...

The Beta Omicron Chapter has over 95 continuous years of presence at ISU; one of the longest running chapters of any fraternity on campus. Internationally, Sigma Chi has been around since 1855. A solid foundation of history and tradition allows us to better reflect on the virtues on which this organization was founded and we use that basis for our teachings to help build leaders.

Size isn’t everything, but…

Sigma Chi is the first of the 75 North-American Interfraternity Conference (NIC) organizations to reach an all-time total of 300,000 initiated members; a milestone that speaks to the dedication of Sigma Chi members.

Lifetime opportunities for personal and professional development and growth…

Horizons, a values-based leadership development program and Balfour Leadership Training Workshop, the fraternity’s premier leadership conference are held each summer. Cornerstone is designed to teach alumni brothers the skills to be effective mentors to the undergraduate brothers.

Learning…

The Iowa State chapter offers the Beta Omicron of Sigma Chi Scholarship for incoming freshmen as well as the Dan Hall Scholarship for undergraduates within our Chapter. The Sigma Chi International Fraternity also offers several scholarships for members.
