Lt. Col. Richard H. Burnett Sr. Scholarship
The Lt. Col. Richard H. Burnett Sr. Scholarship is available to active members of the Beta Omicron Chapter of Sigma Chi. The scholarship will be awarded to one member who will be selected based on academics, leadership within the fraternity, and financial need. Minimum requirements for applicants are a 3.0 cumulative grade point and his financial need as determined by the Iowa State University Financial Aid Department. The awardee will receive a $2500 award each semester of the academic year they are awarded the scholarship in (for a total of $5000.) The award is contingent on maintaining a 3.0 cumulative grade point and the member must reside in the Sigma Chi chapter facility during this period.
Award winners will be notified by September 1st. The scholarship is funded from annual interest earned by the Lt. Col. Richard H. Burnett Sr. Scholarship Fund managed by the Iowa State University Foundation and will be distributed to the winners via tuition credits in the Fall and Spring semesters.
Applicants must demonstrate financial need as determined by the Iowa State Financial Aid Department. The applicant must first file a FAFSA form (Fee Application for Federal Student Aid) and be deemed in need of aid by Iowa State University. FAFSA filling instructions can be found at: www.financialaid.iastate.edu/fafsa. Applicants can then submit the Lt. Col. Richard H. Burnett Sr. Scholarship application once the FAFSA is filed and prior to receiving confirmation that they are eligible for financial aid if they beleive they will be eligible. The financial eligibility of candidates will be verified prior to selection.
