Why Join Sigma Chi
A tradition over 150 years in the making... Our chapter at Iowa State has one of the longest running chapters of any fraternity on campus, running over 95 years and counting. Internationally, Sigma Chi has been around since 1855. A solid foundation of history and tradition allows us to better reflect on the virtues on which this organization was founded, and we use that basis for our teachings to help build leaders. With over 300,000 initiated members, Sigma Chi is the first of the 75 North-American Interfraternity Conference (NIC) organizations to reach this all-time membership total, a milestone that speaks to the dedication of Sigma Chi members.
Sigma Chi offers a lifetime of unique opportunities for personal and professional growth and development. From Horizons, a values-based leadership development program and Balfour Leadership Training Workshop, the fraternity’s premier leadership conference held each summer. Cornerstone is designed to teach alumni brothers the skills to be effective mentors to the undergraduate brothers.
Different Temperaments, Talents and Convictions Sigma Chi brings together individuals from diverse backgrounds to assist one another in the attainment of high-minded goals—a friendship of a higher order that we call brotherhood. Because of that brotherhood, one gains lifelong friendships and a multitude of opportunities for the future.
Meet new people, have a good time... As a member of Sigma Chi and the Greek system, you will meet plenty of people in the same position as yourself, and plenty others to help you on your journey here at college. We work with numerous sororities, fraternities, and other organizations in a number of events, including Homecoming activities, Greek Week, philanthropic events, socials, parties and other traditions here at Iowa State.
Learning The Iowa State chapter offers the Beta Omicron of Sigma Chi scholarship for incoming freshmen as well as the Dan Hall scholarship for undergraduates within the Fraternity.
